The Penn State Alumni AssociationWhat’s been happening: After enjoying my time as a Biochemistry student at PSU (loved those dance marathons, football games, lifelong friends and memories!), I started graduate school at Purdue University. I completed my doctorate in Veterinary Physiology in 1991 under my mentor, Dr. Gerald Bottoms, looking at hormonal responses in circulatory shock. I have used these experiences countless times in my teaching to this day. Afterwards, I spent a year doing postdoctoral research at NMSU in Las Cruces, NM looking at hormone systems in amphibia. I became a "cloud chaser" with my camera and soaked in the spectacular scenery, culture and friendships. New Mexico truly is the "Land of Enchantment" and I vowed I would return to the wild west someday! I then spent 3 more fascinating years of postdoctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (hormonal mechanisms in blood pressure control). A teaching postion opened up at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in the areas I love (anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and biochemistry). I also love the wide open spaces, genuine people and students. I met my husband, Dr. Loyd Hill (now deceased) and have been blessed with his extended family. I continue to teach and serve as a chair of the Natural Science Department and soak in the wild west! |
